I don't think Amarillo Matters understands conservatism. I've spoken out against them and the candidates they've endorsed for some time now, but some of their latest actions make me question their competency.
In a recent sponsored Facebook post, the PAC shared an article attacking Empower Texans. The fact that they are attacking Empower Texans is no surprise, but the argument the article makes (and that Amarillo Matters is amplifying) is confounding. The article claims that Empower Texans is harming conservatism because they push politics in a direction that "makes governing harder."
Excuse me? Isn't one of the key foundations of American conservatism supposed to be standing up against authoritarianism? Shouldn't conservatives support policy that makes it harder for government to control people's lives? That's what I believe, and I think most principled conservatives would agree.
I see no reason any self respecting conservative would take Amarillo Matters seriously. They have proven time and again that they don't understand conservatism and they refuse to support candidates or policy proposals that promise to shrink big government.
