Huffines: It’s Time to Stop Changing Clocks

By Don Huffines, Republican candidate for Texas Governor

This weekend, Texans will engage in one of the most pointless and tedious exercises of the year: changing every microwave, oven, and other clock in their home back one hour because the government decided to disrupt their lives and end Daylight Savings Time.

They’ll get into their cars on Monday morning and see a different time and probably have to change that too. Maybe they’ll be a few minutes late to work, maybe their kids’ school bus will be a few minutes late, or maybe they’ll escape most of the common pitfalls and just be annoyed.

In either case they’ll have engaged in a frivolous exercise that has no material benefit simply because the government decided they needed to do it over 100 years ago when the United States Congress passed the Standard Time Act.

Patriots, I’m tired of listening to the federal government tell Texas what to do.

You likely already know that when I am governor I plan to put a plan on the ballot to phase out property taxes without imposing an income tax. I think Texans deserve a choice to put property taxes on the path to elimination and cut off the head of the snake so they never come back again.

I also favor putting a plan on the ballot to end the illogical practice of changing our clocks and keeping Texas on Daylight Savings Time all year. Under my plan, we would “spring forward” in 2023 and—pending an affirmative vote of the people—never “fall back” again.

I look forward to earning your vote

Don Huffines is a proud fifth-generation Texan, husband, father, grandfather, and self-made entrepreneur. A committed conservative, Huffines is fighting to safeguard Texans’ elections, phase out property taxes, and secure the border once and for all. Huffines is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott from the right in the Texas Republican primary. Texans deserve leadership. No excuses.
