The West Texas A&M University Concert and Symphonic Bands will be featured in back-to-back concert nights.
The WT Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, and the WT Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1, both in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on WT’s Canyon campus.

In all, about 160 students perform in both bands.
The WT Concert Band’s selections will include songs ranging from a “breathtaking and extremely challenging” example of John Williams’ score of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” to the beloved folk song “Shenandoah” to Clifton Williams’ Symphonic Dance No. 3, a classic work of band literature, said director Dr. Russ Teweleit, professor of music.
The WT Symphonic Band will give the world premiere of Dr. B.J. Brooks’ “Strange Loops”; Brooks is a professor of theory and composition and director of The Sound of West Texas Buffalo Marching Band. The band also will give the world premiere of Michael Daugherty’s “Lift Up Thine Ears”; Daugherty is a multiple Grammy Award-winning composer on the faculty of the University of Michigan.
The concert also will feature works by Alfred Reed and John Mackey, said director Don Lefevre, associate professor of music.
Fostering an appreciation of the arts is a key component of WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
That plan is fueled by the historic, $125 million One West comprehensive fundraising campaign. To date, the five-year campaign — which publicly launched in September 2021 — has raised more than $110 million.
