APD Investigating Animal Cruelty Case

Provided

Local authorities are currently investigating an animal cruelty case as part of this week’s Amarillo Police Department Crime of the Week.

According to Amarillo Police, on Thursday, February 24, Animal Management and Welfare employees were called to the 2500 block of North Bolton on the report of an abandoned female dog and her puppies. The dogs were in a wire kennel that was covered with a purple sheet and sat next to a dumpster. AM&W employees found that the six puppies had been killed and the mother was actively bleeding.

The puppies appeared to have just been born within 24 hours of them having been abandoned. The mother was not microchipped and was taken to the shelter to be treated by a veterinarian. Authorities checked the area but the owner of the dogs was unable to be located.

If you have any information on this case, you are asked to call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400. If your tip leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
