Alex Fairly Shares Update on Civic Center Lawsuit

Local businessman Alex Fairly shared a video update on his lawsuit against the City of Amarillo earlier today and announced a court date.

As we previously reported, Alex Fairly filed a lawsuit last month against the city attempting to halt a $260 million project passed by Amarillo City Council to renovate the Civic Center. In his lawsuit, Fairly noted that the project was similar to the Prop A proposal rejected by voters in 2020. The lawsuit also challenged the legality of the funding mechanism proposed by the city.

Shortly after Fairly’s lawsuit was filed in the 108th District Court, the City of Amarillo filed a suit in the 320th District Court seeking a judgement declaring the debt issuance as legal.

Alex Fairly, in his video update, said the move was “not at all unexpected.” He further stated that it was “perfectly in line with what got us here in the first place, a city council that’s determined to go ahead no matter what and in a hurry.”

He finished his update with the big news of a court date having been set: July 5th.

“We will be there and prepared to make our arguments, and we hope some of Amarillo shows up for that as well,” said Fairly. “We will bring some details and some updates as we make our way there.”
