On Saturday, Republican precinct chairs from the Amarillo and Lubbock areas will meet in Plainview to pick the party’s nominee for a seat on the 7th Court of Appeals in the November election.
Four candidates have announced their candidacies for the Republican nomination to replace Justice Pat Pirtle on the 7th Court of Appeals. Pirtle, who is lone justice from Amarillo on the court, is retiring, causing the party’s need to select a nominee for November.
According to candidate announcements, Amarillo attorneys Mike Sharpee, Bobby Ramirez, and Alex Yarbrough are seeking the seat, along with Judge Ann-Marie Carruth, a Lubbock-area district judge who lost her primary bid for re-election in March.
Only precinct chairs will be allowed to vote on the party’s nominee.
Other parties will also be eligible to field candidates for the November election. The nominees of each party will then meet on the ballot in November to see who will be elected to fill the remainder of Pirtle’s term.
