The Randall County Commissioners’ Court voted 4-0 to reinstate the county burn ban. The ban had been lifted just over a month ago, with the county citing recent rains.
However, in the month since, rains have not continued, with the county’s fire chief noting that the county is currently under “moderate to severe drought.”
The commissioners also discussed how the changing seasons are elevating the threat of wildfires, with commissioner Rusty Carnes stating that he has noticed that “everything that was green a month ago is now brown.”
The vote to reinstate the ban carried 4-0.
