No candidate for Amarillo City Council Place 1 or Place 4 won a majority in the May 6th election.

Firefighter Josh Craft won 43.24% of votes for Place 1, and will face entrepreneur and lottery winner Dean Crump, who received 33.07%. Business owner Chip Hunt, analyst Kelsey Richardson, Amazon employee Sherie Wood, pastor Margie Gonzales, and retired businessman Ray White did not make it to the runoff for Place 1. The seat is expected to remain vacant until the runoff.

Former Amarillo Globe-News Publisher Les Simpson won 44.09% of votes for Place 4, and will face entrepreneur Claudette Smith, who received 23.70%. Marine veteran Hobert “Gunny” Brown and parks board member John Ingerson did not make it to the runoff. Unlike Place 1, whose incumbent Cole Stanley was elected as Amarillo’s next mayor, Place 4 incumbent Howard Smith will continue to serve until the runoff.

The runoff election is scheduled for June 24th. Polling places and dates for early voting will be decided on when Amarillo City Council canvasses the results of the May 6th election on May 16th.
