The City of Amarillo will pay former city manager Jared Miller over $730,000 as a part of a separation agreement signed Wednesday.

Miller will be given $633,726.16 on January 4th as a severance payment “in consideration of the Manager's service to the City, the termination of the Manager’s employment without cause, and as a part of [the separation agreement].”

Miller will also be paid $97,134.59 “in lieu of the 90-day notice period” provided under Miller’s contract, which was renegotiated by the precious council shortly before this year’s local election. That payment will be due “on or before September 12, 2023.”

In addition to these payments, Miller will be given “a lump sum payment for all unpaid salary, benefits and reimbursements earned through the Date of Separation.” This includes sick leave hours “at the rate of $150.53 per hour.” The city will also reimburse Miller “for all medical and dental premiums paid” for 18 months after the separation and his annual life insurance premium in 2023 and 2024.

The agreement also includes a mutual general release and nondisparagement agreement, which is “to be executed upon receipt of full Severance Payment.”
