APD Investigating Fatal Accident on North Hughes

Amarillo Police are currently investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Monday morning.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision early Monday morning in the 2400 block of North Hughes Street. A 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 28-year-old Armando Garcia-Rivera, had been northbound on North Hughes. Garcia-Rivera lost control and struck an occupied 2011 Kia Sorento, causing the Tahoe to roll. Garcia-Rivera died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson has ordered an autopsy. Officers believe alcohol, speed, and not wearing a seat belt were factors in the wreck.
