The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Monday.
According to APD, officers were dispatched at 3:04pm on Monday to a collision in the 10000 block of East Amarillo Boulevard. Officers found that a 2018 A 2018 Cadillac Escalade driven by Darlene Downs, 59, had been westbound. The Cadillac left the roadway and struck a tree.
Downs died at the scene as a result of her injuries. Justice of the Peace Debbie Horn has ordered an autopsy.
Speed and seatbelts are believed to be possible factors. The collision is still under investigation.
