City Council to Consider $2 Million in Spending Items

Amarillo City Council will consider over $2 million in spending items during their upcoming regular meeting on Tuesday. In addition to these spending items, the council will discuss a potential charter amendment election and take action on repealing the controversial massage establishment ordinance.

The largest spending item on the agenda is item 8M, an $827,737.41 one-year parks landscape maintenance contract set to be awarded to Reeder Landscape. Close behind is 8R, a $675,770 professional services contract for chlorination improvements at the Osage Water Treatment Plant set to be awarded to HDR Engineering, Inc. A table summarizing all spending items is included below.

Outside of spending items, one item likely to draw attention is 9E, a repeal of the controversial massage establishment regulation ordinance passed by the council in October. According to an agenda memo provided by the city, the recommendation to repeal the ordinance came after “staff formed and worked with a committee of local licensed massage professionals to discuss the best path forward.”

The council is also set to discuss a “possible charter amendment election.” We have a full article on that item here.

The council meeting is set to begin at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 9th in the Council Chamber in City Hall. The full agenda and agenda packet can be found at this link. Those interested in speaking during the meeting are encouraged to sign up at this link.

Ahead of the public meeting, the council will convene in an executive session meeting at noon. Topics included on the agenda for the closed-door executive session meeting include the jail services agreement with Randall County and the proceeds from the Proposition 1 bond. The full agenda for that meeting can be found here.
