Next week, Potter County elections officials will conduct a routine procedure to ensure that vote counting systems are working correctly.

According to a notice posted to the county elections website, on Wednesday, June 12th, election officials will conduct a partial manual count of voted paper ballots. The test is being conducted to ensure that the tabulating systems used during the May 28th runoff election accurately recorded the votes.

The partial count is being conducted in accordance with Texas Election Code Sec. 127.021, which requires election officers to conduct partial manual counts following an election to test the accuracy of the tabulation systems used during the elections. According to state law, the counts are to be conducted in at least one percent of the election precincts or in three precincts, whichever is greater.

According to the notice, the count will not be open to the public. However, under state law, the candidates involved in the May 28th election may attend the count or may appoint a representative to attend the count.
