Amarillo buffet fans were dealt a shock, on Tuesday, with the closing of a Furr’s location.
The Furr’s restaurant, at 2640 Georgia, closed its doors this morning. While unexpected, the Furr’s closing follows a disappointing health inspection report of the facility. Looking inside of the restaurant, following its closing, few fixtures remain. Arcade machines and a painting are all that remain in the foyer of the historic restaurant.
“I am shocked and concerned about the future of the workers at the location.” One Amarillo resident said. This resident, who chose to remain anonymous, said that she frequently dines at the Furr’s restaurant, nearly once a week.
A sign in the window of the former Furr’s location thanked customers for their business, and asked them to visit the Furr’s Fresh Buffet location at 2221 S. Soncy.
The Furr’s Fresh Buffet franchise, which was acquired in 2014, by Food Management Partners, operates locations across the United States, beginning with a location in Hobbs, New Mexico. Founded by Roy Furr, in 1947, the franchise is known for offering “hearty southern dishes,” according to google.com.
