This weekend, several media outlets were attacking a local City Councilmember for Facebook posts. It disturbs me that this is what journalism has turned in to.
Admittedly, I am not a journalist. But, I started this paper in 2016, because I felt that Amarillo needed some news source that could cut through opinion and fact and report what needed to be heard. I believe, that after watching media outlets jump on a bandwagon, attacking an elected official for Facebook posts, that I was correct in my assessment.
This is why I make this promise to you: The Amarillo Pioneer will not use Facebook posts as a main catalyst for any news stories during this election season. Let's leave that for the campaigns, and let's keep the media out of it.
News is crucial for an enlightened society. But truth should always be more important than ratings.
