Judge Sonya Letson has resigned from her position as presiding judge of the Amarillo Municipal Court.
According to City of Amarillo documents, Letson tendered her resignation last week to the City of Amarillo, effective December 31, 2017. Letson's resignation means that members of the Amarillo City Council will soon begin soliciting applications for the role and will appoint the position sometime in the future.
Letson has served as presiding judge of the municipal court, since being appointed by the Amarillo City Commission in 2012. Letson previously served as the Democratic County Attorney for Potter County.
A copy of Letson' resignation letter was not immediately available at the time of this article's publication.
Members of the City Council will consider accepting the resignation on Tuesday night.
