Victor Leal has made his candidacy for Texas Senate official by filing to run in the March Republican primary.
Leal, an Amarillo restaurant owner, filed his paperwork on Saturday to join the race for the Texas Senate seat in District 31. The seat is currently held by Kel Seliger.
Victor Leal is the first Republican to officially file his paperwork for a place on the ballot. Seliger has announced his intention to seek re-election and Mike Canon, attorney and former mayor of Midland, is also running.
No Democrats have announced candidacy for the seat, thus far.
Candidates have until December 11th to file for a place on the ballot.
