WRCA Rodeo Brings Cowboys to Amarillo

Amarillo got a dose of the west over the weekend, as the Working Ranch Cowboys Association world championship rodeo took place at the Amarillo Civic Center.

Beginning on Thursday, real-life cowboys, cowgirls, ranchers, farmers and others from the western trades joined together at the Amarillo Civic Center for the WRCA Ranch Rodeo. The rodeo, featuring competitors from New Mexico, Wyoming, Kansas, Texas and many states in-between, pitted the best of the best in an epic showdown of rodeo action.

Fans from across the country flocked to the Amarillo Civic Center as teams from Kansas and Colorado won ovations from the sold out crowds at the rodeo. Texas teams also showed a strong presence, winning the favor of large portions of the crowd.

Vendors lined the convention rooms and halls of the Civic Center, as visitors and Amarilloans gathered around to buy custom cowboys hats, boots, knives, beef jerky, purses and other necessities of the rodeo. Rodeogoers could also pick up antiques, artwork, jewelry and other fine items from the vendors in the Civic Center.

In a special treat, the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales were at the Rodeo. Visitors in the exhibit halls, could meet the world-famous beer horses and their companion Dalmatians, as the horses received standing ovations during appearances in the Civic Center Coliseum throughout the weekend.

In the end, Wilson Cattle & Haystack Cattle Company took home the world championship, as the team outlasted the other competitors from the region.
