Councilmembers Weigh In on Trash Program

As all five members of the Amarillo City Council have pledged to increase communication with Amarillo residents, many members of the City Council have taken to social media platforms to weigh in on the new trash program in Amarillo.

On Monday, the City of Amarillo unveiled a new trash program in Amarillo, aimed to cut down on large waste in alleys. The new program involves City staff placing stickers on dumpsters reminding residents not to place trash in alleys. Residents are then advised to place the trash on the curb in front of their house, to call (806) 378-6813 and to await pickup by City of Amarillo employees.

Here is what each member of the City Council has said about the new program:

Ginger Nelson (Mayor): "I want to make an appeal to community members. This boils down to what we are willing to invest in change. And I know that we are willing, as a community, to do whatever we need to do to improve ourselves."

Elaine Hays (Place 1): "Let's give it a try. Let's stop compounding the problem that has been developing for years. Let's put an end to illegal dumping and restore safety and pride in our community."
