The Amarillo Police Department is seeking a suspect involved in a shooting today on South Hughes Street.
According to APD, officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of South Hughes at 9:44am on Friday morning on the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old female deceased inside of a residence.
A suspect, described as an African-American male with a red cloth on his head, a white shirt and tan pants was seen leaving the area after the shots were heard. The identity of the suspect has not yet been discovered.
Officers searched for the suspect in the area and several locations around the area went into lockdown. According to an eyewitness at the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association building in downtown Amarillo, those present at the location were asked to stay indoors as officers arrived.
Bivins Elementary School was also placed on lockdown and police searched the area. Those present at Amarillo College's Washington Street campus also reported officers in the area searching for the suspect.
APD has identified the victim as Alicia Rashawn Burks, 26.
The suspect sought in this case still remains at-large at the time of this article's writing.
