Governor Greg Abbott has declared November 3rd to be Houston Astros Day in Texas.
Abbott made the announcement this morning, following Houston's historic game seven victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Houston won the game after picking up five runs off of Dodgers ace Yu Darvish in the first and second innings.
"Earn History was truly a fitting motto to follow this season, as this team displayed tremendous character and grit, fighting through adversity to bring home the franchise’s first World Series title," Governor Abbott said in a statement. "Like the Astros, Texans are known for their spirit and resolve, and in the wake of Harvey’s devastation, we were able to see the persevering nature of Texans on full display. This victory is a great honor for the Astros, and will serve as inspiration to a city and state that is passionate about its sports."
The Houston Astros will also appear in the championship parade in downtown Houston on November 3rd.
