Historic Amarillo Home Destroyed in Fire

A historic Amarillo home was destroyed in a fire on Monday morning.

According to information from the Amarillo Fire Department, crews were dispatched on Monday morning to a structure fire at 1503 Interstate 40 West. When crews arrived, they found a complete structure fire at the location. The fire was also impinging on homes to the west and east of the structure and a second alarm was called.

Due to the large amount of items inside of the home, crews had difficulties searching the home and extinguishing the fire.

AFD reports that the fire was called under control about two hours after crews arrived.

A house to the west of the location (1505 Interstate 40 West) also suffered damages. Those damages have been estimated at about $10,000.

A house to the east of the location (1501 Interstate 40 West) suffered no damage. The home at 1505 Interstate 40 West was empty at the time of the fire, as was the home at 1503 Interstate 40 West. The home at 1501 Interstate 40 West was evacuated as a precaution.

The home at 1503 Interstate 40 West was a total loss.

According to information from the Potter-Randall Appraisal District, the home was built in 1925. Owned by the Whitehead Family Trust, the home had sat at the location since its original build date in the 1920's.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
