Amarillo firefighters responded to a large structure fire on Tuesday morning.
According to representatives for the AFD, around 4:20am on Tuesday morning, crews were dispatched to a fire at 813 Southwest 8th Avenue. Crews arrived on scene to discover a vacant two-story apartment building with fire showing toward the rear of the structure. The fire had gone toward the roof and had also caught a balcony on fire.
Firefighters broke down the fire on the exterior of the building and searched for any possible occupants or fires inside. The fire was called under control at 4:43am.
The cause of the fire has been ruled intentional and authorities believe that the fire likely started from a warming fire. Damages have been estimated at $40,000.
The incident is still being investigated.
