A Lubbock lawmaker expressed support for a speaker of the house from West Texas on Friday afternoon, but stopped short of announcing his support for an Amarillo lawmaker.
Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) spoke with Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith on Friday afternoon in Lubbock to discuss who he would like to see replace Speaker Joe Straus as the next speaker of the Texas house. Burrows said that he would like to see a conservative who understands the concerns of West Texans, but stopped short of expressing his support for Representative Four Price (R-Amarillo).
"I want somebody who is ideological, who's interested in the same things that I am, but who also regionally understands the concerns of West Texas," Burrows said during the event.
Finishing off his discussion of the speaker's race, Burrows said, "I think there’s a good chance we’re going to have a speaker from West Texas next time."
