A new challenger has emerged to face Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick in 2018.
Scott Milder, a former Rockwall city councilman, has announced his intention to face Patrick in 2018. Milder says that his reason for running is to turn the legislature's attention to "critical state business."
"The current Lt. Governor gravitates toward trending social issues and whatever earns him the most time behind a microphone or in front of a camera," Milder said in a statement posted to his Facebook site. "I’m running to turn the state’s focus back on critical state business, such as our infrastructure crisis, border security, and public education."
Milder is a former city councilman and businessman from Rockwall. Milder served on the city council in Rockwall for two terms and boasts the council's decision to lower property taxes during his time in office. Milder is also a former newspaper reporter and public school official. In addition, Milder owns a small event venue.
Milder is the first challenger to announce his intention to seek the Republican Party's nomination over Patrick. Mike Collier is running for the Democratic Party's nomination.
The primary election will be held on March 6th.
