Two suspects have been arrested on burglary charges following a foot chase in North Amarillo.
The Amarillo Police Department reports that on Tuesday morning, officers were sent to a home in the 1600 block of North Williams on a burglary in progress. Witnesses told officers that two men had forced entry into the back door of the home.
When officers arrived, they found two men running from the front door of the home. Officers pursued the suspects on foot. The two suspects split up during the foot chase.
During the chase, an officer used a taser to subdue one suspect. That suspect, identified as Charles Lemont Gwin, 37, fell to the ground. Gwin pulled the taser contacts loose and began running again. Officers caught Gwin a second time as he circled back toward the original scene of the burglary. He turned to face officers in an effort to resist, but was taken into custody.
Officers arrested the second suspect Kendrick Deshawn Carey, 25, near 16th Street and Wilson.
Authorities say the suspects forced the door of the home open, damaging the door jam. A television set was disconnected and was found on the floor of the home, along with two bags of what the officers believed to be Christmas presents. A small electronic television accessory was also recovered from one of the suspects.
Both suspects were booked into the Potter County Detention Center for burglary of a habitation and evading arrest or detention.
