Residents Asked to Haul Christmas Trees to Landfill

Residents in Amarillo are being asked to haul old Christmas trees to the landfill at the conclusion of 2017's Christmas festivities.

According to information released by the Amarillo Fire Department, residents should take Christmas trees to the landfill located at 16250 Benzer Drive. For residents who do not wish to take the tree to the landfill, curbside pickup can also be arranged by calling the City of Amarillo's solid waste department.

In addition to arranging disposal of the tree, several other factors should be considered for tree safety. Those with natural Christmas trees should check to make sure that the tree has not started dropping needles. Also, trees should not be left out for an extended period of time after the holidays. If so, the tree will likely begin drying out and will become flammable.

In using these tips, residents can have a better chance of avoiding being one of the nearly 200 houses that burn due to Christmas trees every year.
