Term limits for City of Amarillo advisory boards are now a thing of the past, following a vote by the City Council on Tuesday.
On Tuesday night, members of the Amarillo City Council voted 5-0 to do away with term limits for City of Amarillo advisory boards that were put into place by the previous City Council. The five current members of the City Council also voted to give each board a uniform November term ending.
Previously, members of the advisory boards were limited to two three year terms in one cycle of service. The previous council added that language to the municipal code, following the discovery that some board members had been serving on advisory boards for nearly decades.
Those who serve on advisory boards can now expect to continue three-year terms that now end in November. City Councilmembers may also now re-appoint board members as many times as the City Council wishes.
The changes to the board procedures were approve as part of the City Council's consent agenda.
Also, during Tuesday's meeting, City Councilmembers voted unanimously to expand the Parks and Recreation Board to eleven members. The board previously featured five board members.
