No New Council Filings

No new Amarillo residents have turned in applications to run for City Council, today.

According to Amarillo City Secretary Frances Hibbs, nobody filed an application for a spot on the Council, during the Tuesday business day. There have also been no filings for the spot of Amarillo Mayor.

Currently, the only filed or announced candidates for City Council include: Incumbent Elisha Demerson for Place 1, Freda Powell and James Schenck for Place 2, Eddy Sauer for Place 3, and Howard Smith for Place 4. Renea Dauntes and Ginger Nelson have both filed their applications to run for mayor. Meanwhile, Cafe DAC owner Jim Lowder has also announced his intention to enter the race.

Incumbents Mayor Paul Harpole and Place 2 Councilmember Lisa Blake are retiring. Place 3 and Place 4 Council members Randy Burkett and Mark Nair have not announced their intentions regarding the election.

Applications are available at the City Secretary's office and can be filed until Friday at 5pm.
