City Councilmember Randy Burkett announced his retirement from the City Council, today.
In a letter obtained by The Amarillo Pioneer, Burkett thanked the people of Amarillo for giving him a chance to serve on the Council. In the letter, he said that after reevaluating his priorities, he has decided to put his family first and spend more time with them.
Burkett was first elected to the Council in 2015, toppling incumbent Lilia Escajeda and three other opponents, with about 55 percent of the total vote.
Burkett's successor will be elected on May 6th.
