Several candidates for local office joined residents gathered at the Buchanan Street United Methodist Church, last night, for The Amarillo Pioneer's candidate forum.
The forum had been advertised for weeks and brought together a large group of concerned residents. Multiple candidates were in attendance for the event. Attorney Len Walker and podcast celebrity Mike Gay were in attendance to moderate the event.
Mayoral candidate Renea Dauntes spoke first to the crowd, followed by fellow candidate Jim Lowder. City Council candidates Elisha Demerson, James Schenck, and Tom Warren II, also spoke. AC Board of Regents candidates Sandra Dunn, Daniel Martinez, Don Nicholson, Danny South, and Thomas Warren III then spoke to the audience, with AISD incumbents James Allen and Eric Darnell wrapping up introductions.
Moderators Gay and Walker both posed questions to the candidates for nearly 30 minutes, and then opened up questioning to the audience. In all, each candidate was posed about 2 to 4 questions each.
Candidates then provided closing statements, beginning with AC candidate Sandra Dunn.
In all, about 20 residents attended the forum.
For those that missed the event, you will have more opportunities to catch the candidates in action. The Amarillo Tea Party is holding the next scheduled forum on April 20th. For more information about upcoming events, please check The Amarillo Pioneer's Election Calendar.
