The Texas Senate Education Committee approved the controversial "school choice" bill, SB 3, in a 7-3 vote, today.
According to the Texas Tribune, if passed, the legislation would create two separate programs subsidizing private school tuition and homeschooling expenses. The bill's author, Senator Larry Taylor, submitted a new version of the bill which would make the programs cheaper.
The legislation has been called a legislative "priority" for Lt. Governor Dan Patrick.
The bill will now head to the full Senate, for a vote.
