Several local residents may be wearing turquoise today, after attending the High Plains Republican Women's meeting, last night.
At the meeting, Toni Anne Dashiell spoke to the large crowd gathered at Dyers' BBQ. At the meeting, Dashiell outlined several functions of the Republican National Committee and her work with State Republican chairman Tom Mechler. Dashiell, who currently serves as the RNC Committeewoman for Texas, also discussed her work at the RNC.
One of the main points of Dashiell's speech revolved around a new organization called Right2Speak. The organization, which was created in February, was created to counter the Day Without Women, according to Dashiell. Dashiell said that on the "National Day Without a Woman" demonstration, those who felt that the demonstrators did not speak for them should wear turquoise. Dashiell said that turquoise would be the counter to the demonstrators' red attire.
Supporters of Right2Speak were also asked to post photographs of their turquoise online using the hashtags "WeShowUp" and "NotMyProtest."
According to Right2Speak.org, the official website for the organization, the organization is "a group of women who seek to serve as a gracious counter-balance to the extremist voices attempting to represent women in the media."
The recently organized group is formed as a 501(c)(4).
