The Amarillo Education Foundation announced its choices for the May 6th Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees election.
The AEF has announced that it will be endorsing incumbent James Allen and challenger Cristy Cooper Wilkinson for the spots on the board. Four seats are open and the two candidates are vying to hold those positions.
AEF said that their endorsements are based upon the fact that the positions of Allen and Wilkinson consistently align with those of the AEA. Mentioned policy positions include those regarding the District of Innovation, diversity, safe schools for students and providing due process to all employees of the school district.
Allen, 55, is the Community Development Director for the City of Amarillo. Allen has served on the board since the late 1990's and is seeking re-election.
Wilkinson, 61, is a retired teacher from the Amarillo Independent School District. Wilkinson is currently the frontrunner in fundraising for the election and is seeking her first term on the AISD Board of Trustees.
Also running for spots on the board are three incumbents, John Ben Blanchard, Eric Darnell, and Renee McCown.
The election will appear on the same ballot as the races for Amarillo City Council and Amarillo College Board of Regents.
