Candidate Comparison: Amarillo Junior College District Board of Regents

Last month, The Amarillo Pioneer requested responses from the candidates seeking offices in the May 6th election regarding important issues facing the City.

Sandra Dunn (Challenger)

How should Amarillo College better prepare for budget cuts?

"There are at times unforeseen things that do happen and subsequently some cuts must be made... proper planning reduces the need for severe budget cuts."

Should AC be involved in the awarding of tax incentives? Why or why not?

"No. Amarillo College has and is in partnership with several industries to provide training and educations to those industries through this arrangement have been made that benefit both the college and the industries."

Why would you best represent the students at AC?

"I am a strong supporter of the professional/medical trades. I am a strong supporter of higher education."

What would be your top priority, if elected?

"Continue the effort of reaching out to future students with the current coaching program started at the college."

How should Amarillo College better prepare for budget cuts?

"This is a hypothetical question and without knowing more specifics, I honestly cannot answer at this time."

Should AC be involved in the awarding of tax incentives? Why or why not?

"Bottom line, tax incentives very seldom benefit both the public & private sectors. Higher Education is certainly no exception."

Why would you best represent the students at AC?

"If elected, that Stu-dent will most certainly have a 'friend' on the Board that they can count on."

What would be your top priority, if elected?

"I want to help that young person to attend knowing they have a 'friend' on the Board of Regents to help in any way possible."

How should Amarillo College better prepare for budget cuts?

"Amarillo College must maintain a stable and low tax rate, while making sure that classes are affordable."

Should AC be involved in the awarding of tax incentives? Why or why not?

 "In its current budgetary state, Amarillo College should not be involved in the awarding of tax incentives."

Why would you best represent the students at AC?

"I will have an open door policy with students to voice concerns and opinions on college functions."

What would be your top priority, if elected?

"The Board of Regents must ensure that AC is providing good customer service and access to opportunities to voice opinions and concerns."
