Rick Figueroa and James Dickey have emerged as the top contenders for the job as Texas Republican chairman following the resignation of Amarilloan Tom Mechler.
Following Mechler's resignation, potential candidates immediately began eyeing a path to the office. Figueroa, a Houston businessman, and James Dickey, Travis County Republican Party chairman, have both joined the race to fulfill Mechler's term as party chairman. Another potential candidate, Mark Ramsey, ruled out a bid today according to the Texas Tribune.
While other candidates may join the race, the time to announce is quickly running out. The election to replace Mechler is two weeks away.
