City of Amarillo Offers Financial Assistance for Demolition and Clearance of Structures

"The City of Amarillo’s Community Development department offers financial assistance for demolition and clearance of substandard structures or accumulations of junk and debris to qualified property owners. Funded through a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and offered through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), this program aims to eliminate slum and blight in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.

Accessory buildings like sheds or garages, residences and commercial buildings which may be fire damaged or deteriorated to an unsafe condition, are eligible for demolition through this program. Property owners must qualify as low-to-moderate income to receive assistance.

Applications are available in the Community Development office in the Simms Municipal Building, 808 S. Buchanan St. To learn more about this program, contact Program Coordinator Summer McCampbell at (806) 378-6276 or summer.mccampbell@amarillo.gov."
