APD Investigating Fatal Car Accident

Officers from the Amarillo Police Department are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred late Thursday night.

According to APD, officers were dispatched to the call of an auto collision in the 4700 block of South Bell on Thursday night. A 2003 Ford Mustang driven by Jaime Dominic Escalante Jr., 20, was exiting a private driveway on to South Bell. A 1993 Ford Explorer driven by a juvenile was northbound on South Bell. The Mustang pulled out in front of the Explorer, causing the collision.

Escalante was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A passenger in the Mustang was also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Explorer and a juvenile passenger were uninjured.

APD's Traffic Squad is investigating the accident.
