Castro Making Moves Toward Possible 2020 Presidential Bid

Julian Castro has formed a political action committee ahead of a possible run for president in 2020.

Castro's new PAC, Opportunity First, is filed as both a political action committee and a "527" committee with the Federal Election Commission. This would give the group flexibility in federal and non-federal elections, according to Politico.

The organization is expected to support candidates for federal office who would be allies of a potential presidential campaign by Castro.

Castro served as secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Barack Obama. Prior to that role, Castro served as mayor of San Antonio.

Castro is one of several candidates who have launched a committee ahead of a possible 2020 presidential bid. Montana governor Steve Bullock launched a PAC in July and former vice president Joe Biden launched a super PAC at the end of May.
