Bucking the vocal House Freedom Caucus, State Representative Four Price signed on for a motion calling the question on a property tax reform bill before hearing any debate on proposed amendments.
Three amendments to SB1, proposed by members of the Freedom Caucus, came up to the Speaker's desk but were never read. Dan Huberty (R-Humble) presented the motion on Monday along with the signatures from several members of the House calling the question. Price's signature was included in the letter.
House Freedom Caucus members protested, including Representatives Jonathan Stickland and Matt Rinaldi. Representative Stickland blasted the motion, saying that the motion was representative of "more games being played" in the Texas Capitol.
In the end, Speaker Joe Straus called the vote and the motion carried 95-43 with area representatives Ken King, Four Price, and John Smithee voting in favor of the motion.
The bill then passed the House by a 105-41 vote. All three area representatives voted in favor of the bill.
According to House Speaker Joe Straus, the bill will now move back to the Senate for approval. Local Senator Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo) voted against the previous version of the bill in the Senate.
