The Amarillo Police Department is reporting that a 19-year-old male has been arrested for an attempted sexual assault in northwest Amarillo.
APD reports that last night, officers were dispatched to a home in northwest Amarillo on the report of a sexual assault. The adult female victim told officers that a man she did not know had followed her as she walked to a home in northwest Amarillo. The suspect grabbed the victim by the hair and held a knife to her throat as he dragged her toward a drainage area by the side of the road. APD says that the suspect indicated to the victim that he intended to sexually assault her.
A vehicle drove by the suspect and the victim and the suspect lowered the knife to his side. The victim was then able to break free from the suspect and run to a house in northwest Amarillo.
The victim provided a description of the suspect to police and a short time later officers arrested a man fitting the suspect's description at North Kentucky and Amarillo Boulevard West. He was identified as Bud Anthony Cruz-Rodriguez, 19.
Investigators developed information linking the suspect to the crime and he was taken to the Potter County Detention Center. Cruz-Rodriguez was booked on the charges of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The victim was not injured.
