APD: One Arrested for Burglary, Assault

The Amarillo Police Department is reporting that one person has been arrested for burglary and assault on a public servant.

APD reports that last night, APD officers were dispatched to a burglary alarm at a residence in the 3500 block of Northeast 17th Avenue. Officers could reportedly see a man walking inside of the residence when they arrived.

Aung Phan, 18, ran from the back door of the residence when he spotted the officers. Officers chased Phan into the next yard where they caught up with him.

Officers then attempted to take Phan into custody, at which point he resisted. After a struggle, officers were able to place the handcuffs on Phan. APD reports that Phan than began kicking at officers and struck one officer in the leg.

Officers then reportedly used pepper spray to gain Phan's compliance.

Phan was charged with Burglary of a Habitation, Evading Arrest/Detention, Resisting Arrest Search or Transport, and Assault on a Public Servant.

Phan was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
