City of Amarillo Using Ping4Alerts

"During a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 6, the Amarillo/Potter/Randall Office of Emergency Management (OEM) announced their partnership with Ping4Alerts! to provide residents in the City of Amarillo and Potter and Randall counties with emergency notifications. All citizens need to do is download the Ping4Alerts! app from the iOS store or the Google Play store for Android and complete a brief setup in the app – all free of charge.

Citizens do not have to provide any personal information but do need to let the app run in the background of the device. The app works by knowing where your device is via location, but neither the company nor OEM keeps a history of your location. The app simply knows where you are and delivers the alert if you are in the area or if you enter a warned area.

Amarillo OEM will use Ping4Alerts to warn citizens of incidents including severe weather, flooding, hazardous materials incidents, and special events.

Amarillo OEM is excited to bring you this service and hope you find it helpful in staying emergency prepared."
