AC to Host Hazmat Regulations Workshop

"Amarillo College will host a three-day hazardous materials (hazmat) regulations workshop Sept. 26-28 that is being presented free to area businesses by the National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (PETE).

The workshop follows the standard train-the-trainer model. It is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and will consist of 24 hours of instruction at AC’s Downtown Campus, 1314 S. Polk St.

The regulations course is intended to train instructors and staff who in turn can train members of their workforces in accordance and compliance with 49 CFR § 172.704 (HMR), for hazmat trainers and employees.

The workshop is limited to the first 20 individuals to register. Attendees are required to have laptops and to complete a prerequisite online hazmat awareness course in advance of the workshop.

For more information about the prerequisite course and/or to register for the workshop, contact Kim Vincent at Amarillo College, kim.vincent@actx.edu or (806) 677-4068.

The workshop will cover everything from recognition of hazardous materials to security awareness, appropriate labeling, rail and air transport regulations, and hazmat incident reporting.

Registrations will be accepted on a first-come basis.

Amarillo College is a member of the Community College Consortium for Health and Safety Training (CCCHST), administered by PETE in partnership with the Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute. CCCHST strives to provide convenient and cost-effective training for hazardous materials and waste workers engaged in waste treatment, storage, disposal; hazardous waste generation, cleanup and remedial action; emergency response; and hazardous materials transportation."
