Suspect in Walmart Carjacking Arrested

The suspect in a carjacking at the Georgia Street Walmart has been arrested.

On Sunday evening, officers were dispatched to a personal robbery in the parking lot of the Walmart on South Georgia Street. Officers learned that the victim was sitting in his 2003 Dodge pickup waiting for someone when three males in dark clothing with covered faces approached the vehicle. One suspect approached the driver and pointed a gun at the victim. The suspect demanded the vehicle and threatened to kill the victim.

The driver surrendered the pickup and the suspect stole the vehicle. Two other suspects left in another vehicle.

A witness told officers that the vehicle was located at 36th Avenue and South Polk Street. An officer located the suspect running from the area and took him into custody.

Joseph Noel Cortez, 23, was booked into the Randall County Jail on charges of Aggravated Robbery, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon.

Officers are working to located the other two suspects.
