Editorial: Hartman Promotion Deserves Praise

The City of Amarillo's selection of Floyd Hartman as assistant city manager should earn praise.

As we previously reported, Floyd Hartman was named the new assistant city manager for Amarillo yesterday by city manager Jared Miller. Hartman will be taking over where assistant city manager Bob Cowell left off when he departed Amarillo to become the new city manager for Roanoke, Virginia.

It has been my experience that Floyd Hartman is one of the best choices that the City of Amarillo could have made to fill the position. The City of Amarillo has some very excellent department heads like James Allen, Richard Havens and Hartman. Hartman is a great addition to the top tier of the municipal leadership structure.

While Hartman is still fresh to the job and anything could change, it appears that Floyd Hartman is one of the best choices that the City of Amarillo could have made.

And for that, we say kudos.
