Residents of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle gathered on Monday to remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2018.
For the first part of the morning, residents gathered for a march that eventually led to an event at the Potter County Courthouse. Residents gathered at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Amarillo and marched toward downtown, escorted by the Amarillo Police Department's motorcycle unit.
Following the march, residents gathered at the lawn of the Potter County Courthouse for a voter registration drive. Patrick Miller, Reverend James Tudman and James Allen all spoke at the event with Allen delivering the keynote address.
The event has become an annual observance in Amarillo and Amarilloans honor the contributions of Dr. King.
