Laura Hamilton is set to become the next municipal court judge for the City of Amarillo.
According to an agenda posted for Tuesday, Councilmembers are considering approving a deal with Amarillo attorney Laura Hamilton that would make Hamilton the next municipal court judge for the City of Amarillo. If appointed, Hamilton would succeed Sonya Letson, who retired as municipal court judge in 2017.
Hamilton has been a licensed attorney in the State of Texas since November of 1990, according to the State Bar of Texas. As of the most recent update to the State Bar's website, Hamilton is a government lawyer working for the Office of the Attorney General.
Members of the Amarillo City Council will consider the first reading of an ordinance appointing Hamilton during Tuesday's meeting. Hamilton will have to pass a 2nd reading before taking office.
