Amarillo Resident Assists Police in Catching Robbery Suspect

An Amarillo resident held officers catch a robbery suspect last week.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, on Thursday, January 25th, officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Soncy on the report of shots fired. A victim has exited the building and found a male suspect burglarizing his vehilce. The suspect and the victim got into an altercation and the suspect pulled a gun and fired at the victim. The suspect missed the victim but the bullet ricocheted off of the ground and struck a vehicle in a nearby parking lot. The family inside of the vehicle was uninjured.

The suspect got into a tan Chevrolet Avalanche driven by another subject and left. The victim was uninjured, but was missing a stereo from his vehicle.

Officers say victims gave a good description of the suspect and the vehicle. At 6:30pm, the victim whose vehicle had been struck by a bullet called the police and said that he was behind the suspect at Interstate 40 and Georgia. Officers responded and stopped the suspect vehicle. The vehicle's driver, Christopher Arthur, 29, was placed under arrest after being found in possession of drug paraphernalia.

After further investigation, Arthur was arrested for the theft and the shooting earlier in the day. Arthur was booked into the Randall County Jail on the charges of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
