Amarillo Fire officials say that the failure of an extension cord caused a fire that resulted in $13,000 in damages this morning.
According to the Amarillo Fire Department, crews responded at 6:38am on Wednesday to a fire at 1001 N. Arthur. When crews arrived on scene at 6:43am, they found a shed in the back yard of the residence that was fully on fire. People were living in the shed and noticed a fire coming from the closet area of the structure.
The fire was brought under control at 6:47am.
Officials say the fire has been ruled accidental with the cause being determined to be failure of an extension cord. The cord was wired to a breaker box on the rear of the main house and ran out to the shed to supply power.
Damages are estimated at $13,000.
